A presto.

  1. Macdriva : It has a familiar sound to it and old geezers can continue calling it Macdrake…..

y’aura encore combien de vote ?

  2. Idrake, IDriva bahh ptthh ppthh MadDriva nea.. liiihhh *lol*

Man Pages and drakconf = ManDrak

the best.. the “e” was swiped by MandrivaSA by hostile takeover 😉

Back to the Roots and letz search the “e” for ever..
let never forget the past !

    ManDrak … conf

ManDrak -> The man best Friend !

    best regards
    Blacky

    • ZKorvezir on April 22, 2013 at 11:02 am

My favorite name was also Conectiva. In past year i have mention this solution several times, but always the answer was ‘problem with copyrights’. I think that Mandriva SA now can resolve this issue.

  4. Moondrake:
    – Let’s give this one to POK’s project, he deserves it even if some of us are rightfully upset
    – Good name, the wizard of the Moon
As Gael Duval said Mandrake is Magic and the Moon is often associated with magic (Moon Magic). Also Moondrake reminds the distro origins (the ‘Mandrake’ community) and the OpenMandriva logo resembles a moon (draft for a logo using the OpenMandriva logo)

Non so se posso scrivere in italiano
    Ciao Fabio, certo

se questo è il posto giusto per indicare il nome che propongo
Il posto giusto, come leggi nell’articolo, è la pagina del wiki. Segui il link 😉

OpenMandriva! We need keep the focus!

  5. I suggest “D’Alleguva” an anagram of Gael Duval founder of Mandrake Linux

    • dave on April 23, 2013 at 6:39 pm

    openmandriva

  6. Looking at the list, openMandriva seems to be the best choice.

At most I would consider something with drak … DRAKOS or DRAKeOS

Does anyone know when the vote will take place, as was done for the choice of the logo?

    Thanks and Ciao

  7. I really think that the best name will have nothing to do with *drake* or *driva*. We already have the Association name as OpenMandriva, so having a product with the same “feeling” will sound strange. Like Mozzilla don’t have a Firezilla or thunderzilla product.~

I prefer a small, easy to spell and with meaning related to past but bot that “explicit”. For example having OpenMandriva’s MacDriva sound really strange. 🙂

I think Drake is a good name that most people like me remember the original name Mandrake Soft. Is short, crisp and has a familiar sound.

The other is Drak; that one is mentioned on the commands and has an originality feel and easy to remember some of the configuration commands.

So is Drak or Drake either one is fine with me.

    • jumbo on April 24, 2013 at 12:56 pm

    Io lascierei semplicemente OpenMandriva.

  8. Your reasoning seems correct and acceptable, but OpenMandriva will have only one product, that is a linux distribution, not different programs. So OpenMandriva might be acceptable.

Mandriva Control Center and the commands drak * are one of the few things that sets us apart from other distributions. With the objective to make us attractive, it might be good to include in the name drak.

I must say, that the choice of distribution’s name will be much more difficult than, that of the association.

    Thanks
    Ciao

I like “Mandolin”, personally, as it moves away from the typical “-Linux” and “X” type names that are so common. The letter “K” gets used a lot.

After all you can make beautiful music with a mandolin!

    2nd choice would be “Mira”.

  9. I propose Arlesian: we long speak about and never see it 😉

    • chuy on April 24, 2013 at 8:38 pm

why not use somenting simple like OMG LINUX ( OPEN MANDRIVA GANG LINUX )

    • chuy_ on April 24, 2013 at 9:11 pm

OMG LINUX (Open Mandriva Gang linux ):
its simple and easy to remenber, then this only have one meaning

    • Orlando on April 24, 2013 at 10:32 pm

Voilà : a good name, like magicians say when they make their tricks and with this distro you can make many tricks as you like and as you need them.

    • Salvatore47 on April 25, 2013 at 7:53 am

    Anch’Io lascierei semplicemente OpenMandriva.

    Ciao, Salvo

    • Diogo on April 25, 2013 at 3:01 pm

Keep OpenMandriva name! we avoid the mess

    • raphael on April 26, 2013 at 10:10 am

OpenMandriva Association is not intended to have only a linux distribution 🙂 It’s only the first project

  10. I would be extremely happy if the openMandriva had only one project: A wonderful distribution.
    stable
    with thousands of packages
    simple
    beautiful

    Ciao

    • Elterco on April 27, 2013 at 1:40 am

Me gusta OpenMandriva, Mandrake + Conectiva = Mandriva + Apertura hacia la comunidad = OPENMANDRIVA, simple directo y concreto…

    • José Manuel on April 27, 2013 at 6:22 pm

Any other names specially starting with the letter (i) is just an Apple want to be.
You are setting the distro to fail if any association with another product.

Keep it original, simple and easy to remember.

ABRA, that means: “I create”, of “abracadabra”. Many consider that the word “Abracadabra” is actually a Hebrew phrase meaning “I create (A’bra) what (ca) I speak (dab’ra).
